EDUCATION
Janae is a constant learner of the music. As a teenager, she studied at Lavilla School of the Arts under the direction of Christopher Banks and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts under the direction of Ted Shistle and Don Zentz. She is incredibly thankful to have had countless life-changing opportunities and proper guidance as she continues to develop her craft, voice and career within the scene.

STUDENT
She has been taught and mentored by John Lumpkin Jr. for over seven years. She is fortunate enough to be a part of his establishment, the John Lumpkin Institute. JLI's "mission is to give students the highest level of mentorship, music education, and performance amongst this generation."

She has also been taught and mentored by Ulysses Owens, Jr. and continues to stay in contact as he is constantly on the move between Jacksonville, FL, New York City, NY, and countless other places. Janae also studied with Leon Anderson, Jr. while attending Florida State University.

Janae is currently studying with the great Kenny Washington while attending the Juilliard School in New York.
PROGRAMS
Janae has attended and performed in several clinics and conventions such as PASIC, JEN, The Midwest Clinic, Music For All, and the Florida Bandmasters Association Convention.

She has also been a member of The New School's "Mannes Prep Summer Academy," Ravinia Steins Music Institute, Carnegie Hall's "NYO Jazz," and JLI's "The State of Jazz Workshop."

TEACHING
In the past, Janae focused on using her experience to help young drummers develop their musicianship, technique, and feel while serving as a teacher at Joyner's School of Music. Though Joyner's School of Music is based in Jacksonville, FL, they are more than happy to assist long-distance students through virtual lessons, phone calls, and more.

Janae has also been fortunate enough to serve as a volunteer at Ulysses Owens, Jr.'s Friday Musicale Summer Jazz Camp 2023.
