ABOUT
Janae Yates is a drummer, composer, bandleader, educator, and music professional from Jacksonville, Florida. A graduate of The Juilliard School, she earned a Master of Music in Jazz Drums and holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Florida State University.
Yates has built a multifaceted career spanning live performance, film, television, commercials, video games, and the broader music industry. She has performed with Ernie Watts, Mike Moreno, Russell Hall, and other acclaimed artists, with appearances at The Appel Room at Lincoln Center, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Marian’s Jazzclub in Bern, Switzerland, Dizzy’s Club, Alice Tully Hall, Jazz Showcase, Zinc Bar, The Blue Strawberry, Lincoln Center's Summer for the City Series, The Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Alexanderia Jazz Festival, the Jazz Education Network Conference, and more.


As a composer, her work has been featured at the Lincoln Center Art of the Score Film Festival and the Bali International Film Festival, as well as in commercial campaigns broadcast on television and streamed on Hulu.
Yates is also a participant in Power 2 Inspire, where she continues to expand her experience in music business, composing for live media and film, and the broader music industry. She is a Jerome L. Greene fellow, an alumna of NYO Jazz and the Ravinia Steans Music Institute, and is a proud endorsing artist with Dragonfly Percussion.
Whether performing, composing for visual media, educating young musicians, or working behind the scenes of the music industry, Yates is committed to building meaningful connections through music and contributing to the creative communities around her.
